In a decisive move to enhance transparency, accountability, and public financial management, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today, 20th August 2025, at Integrity House, Tower Hill, Freetown, hosted the Government Audit Committee (GAC) to agree on a deeper collaboration through the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU, once finalized, will aim to improve Sierra Leone’s performance in implementing audit recommendations, addressing the persistent challenge of non-compliance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), State-Owned Enterprises, and Local Councils.
As part of the initiative, the GAC, chaired by Dr. Claudius William Tucker, will develop a dedicated software platform to track, in real time, the status of audit recommendations whether open, ongoing, or completed. The ACC will have direct access to the system, enabling it to monitor implementation and promptly flag procurement-related and financial irregularities for action.
Speaking during the engagement, Augustine Foday Ngobie, Deputy Commissioner of the ACC, highlighted that the collaboration underscores a renewed commitment to inter-agency coordination and accountability in the management of public resources.
Also in attendance were Victor Peacock, Director of Internal Audit at the ACC; Kandeh Sesay, Director of Internal Audit at the Ministry of Finance; and Dr. Edward Baimba Conteh.
Both the GAC and ACC reaffirmed their joint commitment to addressing unresolved audit issues, even where Parliament may have previously declared matters closed, ensuring no significant irregularities go unchecked.
Once finalized, the MoU is expected to transform the tracking and enforcement of audit recommendations, strengthen compliance mechanisms, and significantly improve Sierra Leone’s audit implementation performance.
