The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming their shared commitment to a corrupt-free Sierra Leone by fostering integrity in public institutions. The MoU was signed on Friday, 25th April 2025, at the ACC’s Integrity House Conference Room.
This renewed agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions as they work to promote accountability and transparency in financial management nationwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Auditor General of ASSL, Abdul Aziz, highlighted the significance of robust collaboration in the fight against corruption and the enhancement of financial oversight. “The ACC and the ASSL are strategic partners in the accountability sector. The two institutions should work and see each other as partners,” he emphasized.
Mr. Aziz further urged that the MoU should go beyond a symbolic agreement. “It must translate from a mere commitment on paper to actual results that will positively impact the lives and livelihoods of the people.” He also encouraged the ACC to use the agreement as a platform to bring in other accountability actors such as the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.
On his part, the Deputy Commissioner of the ACC, Augustin Foday Ngobie, expressed appreciation for the renewed partnership between the institutions at the forefront of Sierra Leone’s accountability drive.
“Our people rely on us to work effectively and efficiently so they can receive the essential services they pay taxes for and deserve as citizens,” he stated. He underscored the importance of sustained collaboration, adding, “If the ACC and ASSL work together at all times, the people will start to get what they deserve.”
Earlier, the ACC’s Director of Public Education and Outreach, Abubakarr Turay, welcomed the renewal of the MoU, noting that such partnerships are vital in reinforcing integrity in public office.
The renewed MoU will support information-sharing and joint initiatives aimed at preventing mismanagement of public funds. This initiative aligns with Sierra Leone’s national agenda to promote good governance and enforce financial discipline across state institutions
