ThePublic Education and External Outreach Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday 18th June 2025, engaged students and academic staff of the Women’s Vocational Training Center (ORMAMIE) on corruption-related issues in the hall of the institution’s Kinghaman Road campus in Freetown.
The purpose of the engagement was to provide a unique and enriching experience for the students and instructors to have a clear understanding of the work, roles and responsibilities of the Commission.
Welcoming the ACC team, Principal of the institute, Abdulai Dulu Bangura, expressed his appreciaition to the Commission for the engagement and pledged his institution’s support to the fight against corruption.
Senior Public Education Officer, Christiana Feima Jusu, while stating the purpose of the meeting said that the ACC is charged with the primary responsibility of controlling corruption in Sierra Leone. “While discharging this mandate, the ACC cannot accomplish it without the help of institutions like the Women’s Vocational Training Center (ORMAMIE). The Commission relies on MDAs and other institutions to control corruption in all public institutions,” she said.
The Senior Public Education Officer said that the Commission controls corruption through Investigations, Prosecutions, Prevention, Public Education, among other strategies. Our engagement here today is the friendly face of the Commission, as we are also here to solicit your cooperation in the fight against corruption,” she concluded.
Senior CommunicationsOfficer, Alhaji A.K Bangura, gave an overview of the work of the Commission. He highlighted some of the successes and strides of the Commission in eradicating corruption in Sierra Leone. “Globally, when they talk about corruption control, Sierra Leone is rated very high, as seen in the Millennium Challenge Corporation scorecard, which has been rating our country with excellent scores in recent years. This is something all of us should be proud of,’’ he said.
He admonished the institution to pay keen attention to issues that will help mitigate corruption occurrences in the education environment and the country at large.
Communications Officer, Martina George, saidcitizensshould see it as a civic responsibility to utilize the means provided by the Commission to report any corruption-relatedissueto improve their wellbeing. She encouraged them to be active participants in the anti-corruption campaign, stating ‘Wae u eye see, u yes yeri, u mot for tok’.
This, she said will bring about a positive change in the communities and country at large.
