Staff of the Public Education and External Outreach Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), on Tuesday, 24th February 2026 engaged traffic personnel of the Sierra Leone Police and Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority on the dangers of corruption in the road sector and the benefits of a corrupt-free society.
The ACC team targeted officers at Jui Junction, Wellington PMB Junction, Texaco Junction, Shell New Road Police Station and Up-Gun, respectively.
Senior Communications Officer of the ACC Alhaji Abdul Karim Bangura, while addressing the officers, encouraged them to desist from every form of practice that may constitute corruption in the dispensation of their sacred national duty. He stated that the ACC will continue to consider the SLP, SLRSA and other law enforcement agencies as very important partners in the fight against crime and in promoting integrity, accountability and transparency.
He stated the on-the-spot working visit by the ACC team was to observe firsthand the operations of personnel at various checkpoints, engage and remind them of their duties and responsibilities.
He made reference to the last Afro Barometer Survey which ranked the police as the most corrupt. “This is unsettling and something that required robust strategic response from the ACC and police leaderships to reverse the trend and improve public perception about the work of the police.” He therefore urged the officers to resist every corrupt and unprofessional practice and report all suspected corruption allegations to the ACC, including attempts by some members of the public to bribe them through the toll-free numbers 077985985,077986986, or 8515.
Mr Bangura explained some of the offences in the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 (as amended in 2019) commonly associated with the officers, including Soliciting accepting or obtaining advantage for public officer, abuse of office, abuse of position, public officer using his office for advantage, conflict of interest and receiving gift for a corrupt purpose. He described the fight against corruption as a collective effort and entreated the officers to support the ACC in its relentless campaign against the scourge.
Mr Bangura informed the officers of the billions of Leones stolen by unconscionable public officers recovered by the ACC and reiterated the need for all at the meetings to commit to ensuring that the Police and Road Safety Authority deliver in their mandates.
In his response, Mohamed B. Bangura Division Traffic Officer (D.T.O) attached at the Jui Police Post, welcomed the ACC team and expressed appreciation to the Commission for taking the initiative to reach out to them. He said that this is the first time the ACC has conducted such a friendly engagement with his team and pledged that they will adhere to all the warnings and admonitions.
Similar sentiments were expressed by officers at the Wellington PMB Junction, Texaco Junction, Shell Police Station and Up-Gun Junction.
